York Community High School’s Military History Club will unveil the Memorial to the Fallen on Saturday, Nov. 7, honoring the 114 York graduates who died in service to the country, dating back to World War II.
The memorial is the result of years of planning and fundraising by the club, with support from American Legion THB Post 187 and the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The ECCI Centennial Celebration NFP raised about $30,000 for the project through its Second Century Fund, which supports community projects in Elmhurst. A companion website will share the stories of each graduate honored, from their time at York to their military service.
The unveiling ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. outside Baker Auditorium, followed by York’s annual Veterans Day Breakfast in the school cafeteria.
