Dear ECCI Members,
America250: Elmhurst’s Moment to Celebrate: This year, communities across the country will commemorate America250, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Residents are invited to take part in a unique experience by signing a replica of the Declaration of Independence at locations throughout the city. The final signing opportunity will be held July 24 during an event at the Elmhurst History Museum.
For 250 years, America’s story has been written by people who built businesses, volunteered, served their neighbors, and invested in the places they call home. That same spirit is alive in Elmhurst today. America250 will bring residents of all ages together through a variety of events, programs, and activities that celebrate our nation.
A lasting symbol of Elmhurst’s participation in America250 is the Elmhurst250 Bell, which made its public debut during the 2026 Memorial Day Parade. The bell will travel to community events throughout the year before finding its permanent home at the Elmhurst History Museum alongside a time capsule. Created through the efforts of local volunteers, donors, and community partners, it serves as a reminder of this once-in-a-generation milestone and the community spirit that continues to shape Elmhurst.
How Businesses Can Get Involved
Local businesses have always played an important role in our community’s story. They sponsor youth sports teams, support charitable causes, create jobs, and help make our business districts vibrant destinations. America250 provides an opportunity for businesses of every size to participate in the celebration while showcasing their connection to the community.
Have fun and be creative. Consider displaying patriotic décor, sharing your business’s local history, creating special promotions tied to community events, encouraging employee participation, or partnering with fellow businesses and organizations during America250 activities.
Organizations and businesses are encouraged to register their celebrations and events on the Explore Elmhurst Community Calendar to help residents discover opportunities to participate throughout the year.
As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, let’s also celebrate what makes Elmhurst special, a strong sense of community, engaged residents, thriving local businesses, and a shared commitment to making our city even better for future generations.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect on our shared history and celebrate the spirit of our community,” said Mayor Scott Levin. “We invite everyone to join us in making this milestone unforgettable.”
Join us as we celebrate our nation’s history and Elmhurst’s place in it!
Governmental Affairs in Action
This month, the Elmhurst Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee hosted its Legislative Session Recap & Business Roundtable at Community Bank of Elmhurst. We were honored to welcome State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton, State Representative Marti Deuter, moderator Elliot Richardson of the Small Business Advocacy Council, Mayor Scott Levin, and members of our business community.
The discussion focused on issues impacting employers and residents, including affordability, housing, health insurance, property taxes, and public education. More importantly, it reinforced the Chamber’s role in connecting our business community directly with elected officials and fostering meaningful conversations that strengthen Elmhurst.
Special thanks to Community Bank of Elmhurst for hosting, and Fresh Start Cafe for co-sponsoring breakfast, our speakers, and everyone who participated in this important discussion.
