U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne P. Clark delivered the 2026 State of American Business keynote at U.S. Chamber headquarters, sharing a clear message for the nation’s economic future: it must be growth-oriented, future-focused, and fearless.
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Clark urged leaders to embrace free enterprise principles that have historically driven innovation, opportunity, and rising living standards. Central to her remarks was the importance of achieving sustained 3% annual GDP growth, which she described as the fastest path to improving quality of life and economic mobility for Americans.
Clark contrasted pro-growth, market-based solutions with fear-driven policies such as excessive government control, noting that free enterprise enables businesses to respond to challenges and create abundance. She also reflected on lessons from the nation’s bicentennial era, when a return to market-driven policies helped spark decades of economic growth.
Looking ahead, Clark expressed optimism about the next 50 years, pointing to investments in education, research and development, and infrastructure as key drivers of long-term prosperity.
