As we welcome May, one of my favorite, and Elmhurst’s most beloved traditions returns this month—the Spring Road Pet Parade! Bring your favorite pet for a day of family fun for kids, adults, and your favorite four-legged pal.

My dog, Bradley Cooper, will be making a guest appearance at the Chamber-sponsored Pup Cup table!

Events like these showcase the strong sense of community that makes Elmhurst such a special place to live, work, and do business. Register HERE: Spring Road Pet Parade: 2026 Spring Road Business Association & Elmhurst Kiwanis Pet Parade

As this message is being published, I am traveling to Washington, D.C.. It is always meaningful to spend time in our nation’s capital and reflect on the freedoms, opportunities, and entrepreneurial spirit that make our country so special.

As our nation begins celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, we are reminded that small businesses, civic engagement, and strong local communities have always been at the heart of our country’s story. I encourage you to take part in the many community events and celebrations happening around town, including the Memorial Day Parade. This year’s Grand Marshal will be decorated veteran and devoted community leader, Bill Shanklin. Congratulations Bill!

Speaking of lifelong service, I am thrilled to share that the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry proudly congratulates Ralph Pechanio on being named the recipient of the 2026 Darrell Whistler Special Service Recognition Award. This is the City of Elmhurst’s highest recognition for volunteer service, reflecting Ralph’s more than five decades of dedication.

From his leadership of the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial Commission and Memorial Day Parade Committee to his years as a Chamber Board member and Ambassador, Ralph’s impact is truly remarkable. For many of us, Ralph is a mentor and a friend, and his humility and devotion to service have helped strengthen both our organization and our community. Please join us in congratulating Ralph on this well-earned achievement.

April was a very successful month for ECCI as we brought members together through valuable networking, education, and workforce development opportunities. Highlights included the Annual Multi-Chamber Economic Outlook Networking Luncheon and Business Expo with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, our collaborative program with Elmhurst University and the City of Elmhurst, the College of DuPage Job Fair supporting workforce development, and a fun, interactive AI After Hours hosted by Aqueity.

Our ECCI Governmental Affairs Committee took action to help keep members informed regarding the proposed BUILD housing legislation advancing in Springfield. After discussion, the committee shared concerns similar to those raised by Mayor Scott Levin regarding potential impacts on local zoning control. We contacted our local legislators, shared information with members through our website and social media, and encouraged members to stay informed. Read more here

This month, I’d like to highlight several exciting happenings and opportunities to stay engaged. Join us for an upcoming Business After Hours hosted by Lakeside Bank, Multi-Chamber Speed Networking, and Business After Hours co-hosted by the Chicago House AC Soccer Team and Pint’s.

These events are a great way to meet fellow members, and strengthen your network in a relaxed setting. I also had the privilege of joining Mayor Scott Levin in welcoming the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council to Chicago for its Spring Meeting at Couch Clarity, owned by Chamber member Melissa Bercier. The gathering brought together small business leaders from across the country and provided an opportunity to showcase our region while highlighting the vital impact of small businesses nationwide. We were proud to see Elmhurst represented on a national stage.

As we gather, we also pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage and dedication should never be forgotten.

Thank you for your continued membership and support of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry. We look forward to seeing you this spring.

Warm regards,
Jennifer Veremis
