ELMHURST BUSINESSWOMEN APPOINTED TO EEDC

 

     ELMHURST, IL, February 10, 2017 – Elmhurst businesswomen Julie Coan and Nina Coppola were recently appointed to the Elmhurst Economic Development Commission (EEDC) to fill out the roster of 15 mayoral and Commission appointees.

     A Commission appointee whose term will expire in April of 2019, Coan serves as the Vice President of Merchandising (since 2015) at Elmhurst-based McMaster-Carr Supply Co., where she has worked for the past 18 years.

     A Mayoral appointee whose term expires in April of 2018, Coppola is a Co-Owner (since 2000) of Christopher Steve Homes and Contract Project Manager for MetLife Corporate Real Estate (since 2008) at Management Two, both Elmhurst businesses.

     The mission of the EEDC’s role is to establish, maintain and promote communication among the City, other government agencies, businesses, business, trade and industry organizations, and other local organizations and institutions, for the purpose of maintaining and improving the economic health of the City.

     The EEDC is comprised of 15 appointed Commissioners serving across staggered three-year terms, plus several ex-officio members.

     A total of 12 Commissioners are Mayoral appointees and three are appointed by Commission consensus, both with the approval of the Elmhurst City Council.

     The EEDC includes ex-officio members in the Chairman of the City Council’s Development, Planning and Zoning Committee, President and CEO of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Executive Director of Elmhurst City Centre.

     Coan has worked at McMaster-Carr for 18 years across many areas of the business, including publishing, customer service and marketing, in addition to her current responsibilities in merchandising.

     McMaster-Carr (founded in 1901) is a leading supplier to industrial and commercial facilities worldwide, specializing in next-day delivery of Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) materials and supplies.

 

     Coan is a 1998 graduate from Evanston’s Northwestern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in American Studies and minor in German.

     A 13-year resident of Elmhurst, Coan and her husband, Jonathan, are the parents of two daughters attending Edison Elementary School.

     Coppola was appointed to complete the third term of Steve Moskal (2011-16), who resigned last September.  Moskal is Co-Owner and President of Prairie Display/Chicago in Elmhurst’s North Business Park.

     Owned by Coppola, Christopher Steven Homes is a residential builder and general contractor focusing on speculative residential construction and contract residential construction and remodeling.

     Coppola also was among three Founding Partners (1987-2000) of Oak Brook-based Trilogy Development Corp., a residential real estate development and construction company specializing in development and construction of residential subdivisions.

     Her resume includes Associate positions at Chicago firms Realcorp, Inc. (1985-87) and Kane, McKenna & Associates (1982-85), and service as Community Development Director (1979-81) for the City of Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

     Coppola also is licensed with the State of Illinois to transact real estate sales.

     Coppola holds a Master’s degree (1983) in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts degree (1980) in Urban and Metropolitan Studies from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

     Coppola and her husband, Russell Radke, have been residents of Elmhurst since 1989.
