Business After Hours
Elmhurst will participate in a multi-chamber Business After Hours, titled “Branching Out!” at The Morton Arboretum (4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle) on Thursday, September 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Representing Elmhurst, All Things Elegant (102 West Second Street) and Eclectic Cuisine & Hospitality Group (700 Commercial drive, 5th Floor, Oak Brook) will be among the caterers providing food and beverages.

Business Celebrations
Classic Cinemas President Willis Johnson, Owner of the York Theatre (150 North York Street), will celebrate that landmark business 80th Anniversary on Sunday, September 12, starting at 1:30 p.m.  A special $2.00 showing of the musical classic “Singing in the Rain” will begin at 2:00 p.m., with proceeds to benefit the Elmhurst Historical Museum (120 East Park Avenue).

Owner Leslie-Anne Swanson of Boutie Q Boutique (263 North York Street) will hold her Grand Opening on Saturday, September 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Festivities will include giveaways, refreshments and a DJ.

Also, Owner Karen Maitland of Carousel Flowers (527 South York Street) is celebrating her 5th Anniversary in business this month.

Family Steak Fry
Holiday Inn Elmhurst (624 North York Street) and The Elmhurst Independent (533 South York Street, Unit E) will co-host the Chamber’s annual Family Streak Fry at the Holiday Inn’s Holidome on Tuesday, September 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  The Holidome features a swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court and video arcade—all in the comfort of the indoors.  The Silverado Grill (447 Spring Road) will provide steaks (or chicken) at a cost of $15.00 per adult, while children/grandchildren will eat hamburgers and hot dogs free of charge.  The Independent will provide complimentary beverages.

Membership Breakfast
Easter Seals DuPage (830 South Addison Road, Villa Park) will host the Chamber’s Membership Breakfast on Tuesday, September 28, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Newsmakers
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove has selected Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) to provide bachelor’s degree-completion work for its nurses at the hospital.

Kopper Kitchen (601 West St. Charles Road) will donate 20 percent of a requesting patron’s bill to Immaculate Conception High School (217 Cottage Hill Avenue) during September and October.

Jason Janes, Representative with Edward Jones Investments (115 West Vallette Street), will host a free video presentation featuring Naomi Judd on Tuesday, September 14, at 10:30 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Call 279-5530 for more info.

Special Events
Gold Medal Daze is the Summer Olympic-inspired theme of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual fundraising dinner party, which will be held at The Carlisle in Lombard on Friday, September 10, starting at 7:00 p.m.  Ticket cost is $60.00 per person.  For more info, call 782-7829 or visit www.emhc.org.

The People for Elmhurst Parks Foundation (P.O. Box 1303) will sponsor Wine Tasting 2004, the 3rd Annual Wilder Mansion Benefit, at the Elmhurst Art Museum (150 Cottage Hill Avenue) on Friday, September 17, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Coldwell Banker (190 North York Street) is sponsoring a Wine and Cheese Fundraiser to benefit the American with Diabetes Association on Wednesday, September 22, starting at 5:00 p.m.  The cost is $10.00 per person.  Participants are encouraged to bring a bottle of wine and chunk of cheese.  Call 530-2500 for more info.

The College of DuPage Foundation’s 22nd Annual Golf & Tennis Outing will be held at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville on Monday, September 27m with proceeds benefiting the Scholarship Program.  The cost is $425 per person for golf, $325 per person for tennis

The Board of Education for Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 (130 West Madison Avenue) will officially named the new Field House at York Community High School (355 West St. Charles Road) in honor of legendary cross country coach Joe Newton on Sunday, October 3, at 2:00 p.m.  Refreshments will be served in the Courtyard Commons following the one-hour program.

Workforce Training Program
