The Elmhurst Press/Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers (709 Enterprise Drive, Oak Brook) received a 2nd Place Class D Award for Best Business Publication or Business Special Section in the Suburban Newspapers of America’s 2004 Advertising and Promotions Contest for producing the Chamber’s all-color Spring 2004 Elmhurst Community Directory.

Porte Brown LLC (845 Oakton Street, Elk Grove), Certified Public Accountants, was selected as this year’s Corporate Miracle Award-winner from the Alternatives in Education for the Hearin Impaired-Alexander Graham Bell Montessori School in Mt. Prospect.

Elmhurst Public Library (125 Prospect Avenue) was ranked as the sixth best public library in the nation by the 2004 Hennen’s American Public Library Rating Index and received the highest award for excellence in masonry from the Illinois Indiana Masonry Council.

“Elmhurst, Illinois:  Ideal for Your Business, Your Family, Your Life,” the City of Elmhurst’s promotional CD produced for the then-Elmhurst Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) by Maddock Douglas (111 Adell Place), received the International Economic Development Council’s (IEDC) annual technology-based award.

The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra has received a $2,000.00 grant from Target in support of its annual Free Youth Concert, which is scheduled in the Auditorium at York Community High School (355 West St. Charles Road) on March 6, 2005, at 3:00 p.m.

Eric Schouten of Schouten Chiropractic Clinic (641 North York Street, Suite B) was featured in the Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205’s Fall 2004 newsletter for his volunteer work in mentoring a middle school student.

The Elmhurst Walk-In Ministry (125 West Church Street) provided more than $36,000 in aid and relief to the needy, according to the organization’s Annual Report for 2003-04.

Toys for Tots
Elmhurst Firestone (436 North York Street) and Edward Jones Investments/Jason Janes (115 West Vallette Street) are serving as a Toys for Tots collection site for new, unwrapped toys for needy children now through December 22.
