Annual Meeting/Silent Auction
Chamber members and their family, friends and employees are FREE to attend the Chamber’s 2001 Annual Meeting/Silent Auction at Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187, 310 West Butterfield Road, on Monday, November 26, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The 30-minute Annual Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by the “Taste of Elmhurst” and Silent Auction at 7:00 p.m.
During the Annual Meeting, the Chamber will salute the A.J. “Toche” Terrones Business of the Year for 2001, welcome the new Chairman of its Board of Directors, Officers and Directors, recognize the outgoing Chairman, Officers and Directors, and honor the Chairman’s Award winner and Ambassador of the Year.
The “Taste of Elmhurst” will feature mouth
-watering food compliments of the following Elmhurst restaurants: Barbeque Jim’s Smokehouse (pulled pork sandwiches), Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (assorted ice creams), Crossroads Tavern & Eatery (ribs and wings), Fitz’s Pub (hot hors d’oeuvres), Jewel-Osco (assorted party trays), Las Bellas Artes (seafood lasagna), Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria (deep dish pizzas), McNally’s Irish Pub (corned beef sandwiches), Pastries Plus Bakery (assorted pastries), Red Dragon Chinese Restaurant (sesame chicken) and The Silverado Grill (steak and chicken shish-ka-bobs).
Auction items, which range in value of less than $100.00 (Tier I) to more than $500.00 (Tier III), include use of vacation condos/townhouses, sailboat dinner cruise, golf outing and equipment, movie theatre passes, hotel and restaurant gift certificates, and much more.
Business After Hours
AmeriSuites Elmhurst (410 West Lake Street) will host the Chamber’s Business After Hours on Wednesday, December 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Holiday Happenings
Elmhurst City Centre (2 City Centre Plaza) will host the city’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting in the City Centre Plaza on Friday, November 23. The West Town Chorus will sing carols starting at 6:30 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., Santa will join Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D. Marcucci in lighting the tree. Santa will visit with children in his Cozy Cottage at Pfund & Clint Florists, 123 North York Street, and Mrs. Claus will be at MWD Photography, 126 North York Street. Horse and sleigh rides will run throughout City Centre until 10:00 p.m. On Saturday, November 24, York Theatre, 150 North York Street, will give a free showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas at 10:30 a.m. Santa’s Cozy Cottage will be open Saturday from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 25, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The Spring Road Business Association and Chamber will sponsor the annual Tree Lighting at the Spring Road Gazebo on Friday, November 30, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Lifelink (331 South York Road, Bensenville) will host its annual Holiday Gala at the Wyndham Drake in Oak Brook on Friday, November 30. The ticket cost of $125.00 per person includes hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, gourmet dinner, auction and dancing. There will be a drawing for $5,000.00, with ticket cost at $25.00 each or five for $100.00.
The Elmhurst Historical Museum (120 East Park Avenue) will host its Holiday Open House on Sundays, December 2 and 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The theme is celebrating the holidays as the people of Elmhurst did in the early 1900s.
Bella Voce, one of America’s premier choral ensembles, will present a program of Renaissance Christmas music at Bethel United Church of Christ, 315 East St. Charles Road, on Monday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. Ticket costs are $20 per adult with a $2.00 discount for seniors and $12.00 per student.

A-1 Communications, Inc. (540 West North Avenue), a Verizon Wireless dealer, will host the Chamber’s Membership Breakfast on Tuesday, December 4, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.
Newsmakers
Scott Ahlgrim, Owner/Director of Elmhurst’s Ahlgrim Funeral Home, Ltd. (567 Spring Road) was recently elected to serve on the Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Board of Governors. He is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Elmhurst (P.O. Box 147), Spring Road Business Association and DuPage County Funeral Director’s Association.
The Illinois Telephone Consumer Education Fund, a not-for-profit corporation that includes Ameritech Illinois (225 West Wesley, Wheaton), along with governmental agencies and consumer groups, has produced “Phone Questions? Get Answers! Your guide to phone service options,” a
free booklet now available in the Chamber office.
Marilyn Boria, Executive Director of the Elmhurst Public Library (211 Prospect Avenue), was named 2001 Librarian of the Year by the Illinois Library Association.
Special Events
Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) will host the 16th Annual Dr. Rudolf G. Schade Lecture in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center on Thursday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m. The lecture by political insider James A. Nowlan, Senior Fellow with the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs, is titled “I Didn’t Plan to be Unethical.” Admission is free.
The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra (P.O. Box 345) will present “Fabulous Four,” a concert featuring soloists from Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s woodwind section, at Elmhurst College’s Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel on Sunday, November 18, at 3:00 p.m. Ticket costs are $25.00 per adult, with a $2.00 discount for seniors.
