Candidates Forum

Business After Hours
Fresh Start Cafй (1038 South York Street) and Floor Coverings International (825 East Roosevelt Road, Suite 178, Lombard) will co-host the Chamber Business After Hours at Fresh Start on Thursday, February 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Membership Breakfast
Casa San Carlo Retirement Community (420 North Wolf Road, Northlake) will host the Chamber Membership Breakfast on Tuesday, February 15, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Multi-Chamber Business Luncheon
Noted economic expert Carl Tannenbaum, Chief Economist at LaSalle Bank, will be the Keynote Speaker for a Business Luncheon co-sponsored by Elmhurst and six other area chambers at the Ashton Place, 341 75th Street, Willowbrook, on Friday, February 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  His topic is titled, “Balancing Our Books.” Registration and networking begins at 11:30 a.m., with the London broil lunch service starting at 11:55 a.m.  The cost is $25.00 per person for members of the sponsoring chambers.  Non-member cost is $30.00 per person.

Newsmakers
SBC Communications (225 West Wesley, Wheaton) announced plans to acquire AT&T to create “the nation’s premier communications company with unmatched global reach” for residential consumers and business customers alike.

The David Agency (385 North York Street) has announced the addition of R&K Insurance Agency, a 72-year-old family-owned agency based in Downers Grove, to its family of companies.

The Elmhurst City Centre Board of Directors appointed Carole Thorpe, Interim Executive Director, and Tara Esposito, former Marketing Director, as Co-Executive Directors, effective February 1.  Thorpe will be in charge of Finance and Operations, while Esposito will handle Downtown Services and Marketing.

One-Stop Business Portal
Business owners will be able to find information on virtually all state regulations and download forms as part of an improved one-stop business portal, www.business.illinois.gov, which the state put on line on February 3.

Online Wage Reporting CD

The Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (P.O. Box  291), in partnership with the City of Elmhurst and Elmhurst City Centre, will sponsor the third annual Cool Kiddie Cars with a Cooool Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang theme.  A limited supply of cars can be sponsored at a cost of $1,500.00 prior to March 1 and $1,900.00 thereafter.  Call City Centre at 993-1600 for more info.

The Elmhurst Art Museum (150 Cottage Hill Avenue) and Elmhurst Historical Museum (120 East Park Avenue) will both display the American landscapes of local artist Lee Sturges (1865-1954) in the exhibit “Lee Sturgis:  Points of View” from February 19 through May 15.

The Elmhurst Lions Club will host its 19th Annual Pizza Party, featuring pizza from Roberto’s Ristorante & Pizzeria (483 Spring Road) at Sandburg Middle School (345 East St. Charles Road) on Saturday, March 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  A donation of $7.00 per person is requested, with children six and under free.

“State of the City” Mayoral Address
The Annual “State of the City” Mayoral Address, featuring Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D.
