ELMHURST CHAMBER EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
IS RECOGNIZED WITH CHAIRMAN’S AWARD

ELMHURST, Ill., November 29, 2004 – Barb Savage, Executive Assistant at the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry since 1999, received the 2004 Chairman’s Award at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting/Silent Auction held at the Waterford Banquet Room at the Holiday Inn Express last Tuesday (November 23).

The annual award traditionally is given to a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for his/her outstanding service to the Board, Chairman and President.

Outgoing Board Chairman Rich Rosenberg, Owner of Phototek Corp. (533 Spring Road), Elmhurst Camera (535 Spring Road) and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (539 Spring Road), presented the 2004 award to Savage for “selfless” service to the Board and him.

Savage, who enjoyed a 24-year career in banking (1973-97), joined the Chamber staff shortly after the July 1999 death of then-President A.J. “Toche” Terrones.  She first worked with Interim President Jim Dinkle, now a Director and First Vice-Chairman, until the November 1999 hiring of current President John Quigley.

“Barb does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that reflects positively on the Chamber, Board, Executive Committee and myself,” said Quigley.  “Plus, I can always count on Barb to handle issues and make tough decisions when I’m not available.”

Her position also includes the responsibilities of Office Manager and Bookkeeper, Event Planning, Program Development, Services Administrator and Mentoring Director of the Elmhurst College student interns.

Savage has been active in the Spring Road Business Association and Women in Business group since joining the Chamber, and is a new member of the Elmhurst Noon Lions Club.  Recently, she served on the Board of Directors at Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison, her Alma Mater (1972), completing three three-year terms.

She and her husband, Bill, have lived in Elmhurst for 15 years.

Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and commercial progress of the community.

The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
