ELMHURST CHAMBER ELECTS OFFICERS FOR 2005

ELMHURST, Ill., November 10, 2004 – The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry Board of Directors elected three officers to its six-member Executive Committee for 2003 during their regular monthly meeting held Tuesday (November 9) in the Community Room at Community Bank of Elmhurst (330 West Butterfield Road).

Elected by the Board of Directors to one-year Executive Committee terms were:

Chairman—Tom Cathcart, Senior Benefits Manager at Motorola since 2003;

First Vice Chairman—Jim Dinkle, Manager of Economic Development for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad since 2000; and

Second Vice Chairman—Dare Messina, Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX East-West (191 South Route 83).

Cathcart, Dinkle and Messina will be joined on the Executive Committee by Immediate Past Chairman Rich Rosenberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Phototek Corporation (533 Spring Road), Elmhurst Camera (535 Spring Road) and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (539 Spring Road); Chamber President John Quigley, an ex-officio member; and a Treasurer to be appointed by the Chairman in December.

Cathcart will work closely with the Chamber staff and oversee the policy-making work of the Chamber Board and its four standing committees:  Marketing, Membership, Ways and Means, and Governmental Affairs.

Tom Cathcart
Tom Cathcart, a second-term Director (elected in 2000 and re-elected in 2003), served on the 2004 Executive Committee as First Vice Chairman, chaired the Marketing Committee and is a fourth-year member of the Chamber Ambassadors.  He also is one of two Chamber representatives serving on the City of Elmhurst’s Historical Preservation Committee.

In 2003, Cathcart was Second Vice Chairman and Chair of the Membership Committee, on which he served three years.  In 2002, he was Treasurer and chaired the Ways and Means Committee.  He has been a member of the Elmfest Steering Committee since 2001 and served on the “Tee Off for Toche” Golf Outing Committee in 2000.

Cathcart’s family has been active in the Chamber since its founding in 1918.  His grandfather, Thomas O. Myers Sr., and uncle, Thomas O. Myers Jr., representing Thomas O. Myers Real Estate (385 North York Street), both served as Chairman (then President) of the Chamber Board, while his father, William, was a Board Treasurer.

His career includes human resource and legal work with Keebler Company (1999-2003), United Airlines (1990-97) and other prominent companies.  He became active in the Chamber while employed at Keebler (a Chamber member since 1969), where he followed in the footsteps of Terry McGill, a Past Chairman of the Chamber’s Board.

A 43-year resident of Elmhurst, Cathcart earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois College and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.

Jim Dinkle
Jim Dinkle, a first-term Director (elected in 2002), served on this year’s Executive Committee as Treasurer and chaired the Ways and Means Committee.  Dinkle acted as the Chamber’s Interim President in 1999 (following the unexpected death of longtime President A.J. “Toche” Terrones) and was an Ex-Officio member of the Chamber Board from 1994-97 while serving as the Executive Director of the Elmhurst Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) from its inception in 1993 through 1997.  He also served on the Elmhurst City Centre’s Board of Directors as an Ex-Officio member.

His background includes governmental service as Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley’s Special Projects Manager (1997-98) and Deputy Chief of Staff for former Kentucky Governor Wallace Wilkinson.

A resident of Elmhurst, Dinkle joined the Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst in 2003, currently serving as the club’s President-Elect.  He is a former member of the Elmhurst Family YMCA Board of Directors and Rotary Club of Elmhurst.

Dare Messina
Dare Messina, a first-term Director (elected in 2002), has served on the Membership Committee and as a Chamber Ambassador since 2001.  Messina has represented the Chamber with an Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 study and was a member of the College of DuPage Real Estate Committee from 1998-2001.

Messina has been a Chamber member since 1987, two years after joining RE/MAX East-West.  She served United Airlines as a flight attendant for some 35 years, starting in 1967, and is a Past Co-Director for the airline’s United Way Campaign.

Messina joined the Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst in 2003 and currently chairs the club’s Membership Recruitment and Retention Committee.  She is a member of Visitation Catholic Church.

A 34-year Elmhurst resident, Messina has served on the Elmhurst Atrium Townhouse Association’s Board of Directors, including Treasurer, and is a former member of the Elmhurst Jaycees.

Rich Rosenberg
Rich Rosenberg, a two-term Director (elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2001) who served as Board Chairman in 2004, will remain on the Board and Executive Committee for another year as Immediate Past Chairman.  He also is one of two Chamber representatives serving on the City of Elmhurst’s Historical Preservation Committee.

Rosenberg served as First Vice Chairman and Chair of the Marketing Committee in 2003, Second Vice Chairman and Chair of the Membership Committee in 2002, and Treasurer and Chair of the Ways and Means Committee in 2001.  He also has been active on the Governmental Affairs Committee for years.

Rosenberg has been a Chamber member for 12 years, and all of his businesses are members of the Spring Road Business Association.

Rosenberg is a 23-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst, supports the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation (ECAF) and has served on the Finance Committee of the Elmhurst Art Museum.

Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and commercial progress of the community.

The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
