ELMHURST, Ill., March 29, 2002 – The Elmhurst Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) and the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry will present their 2002 Beautification Awards to 10 businesses and the City of Elmhurst in April.
The Annual Beautification Recognition Breakfast will be held at 2002 award-winning Roberto’s Ristorante & Pizzeria, 487 Spring Road, on Wednesday, April 17, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. A complimentary continental breakfast will available at 7:30 a.m., followed at 8:00 a.m. by the awards program.
Seating is limited to 60. For reservations, call the EEDC at (630) 530-6404.
Joining the city and Roberto’s as 2002 Beautification Award winners will be Fitz’s Pub (172 Addison Avenue), J.C. Anderson, Inc. (834 North Church Road),
Jewel-Osco (153 Schiller Street), John Sakash Company (700 Walnut Street), KinderCare Learning Center (556 West North Avenue), LaSalle Bank-South (1000 South York Street), Maddock Douglas (111 Adell Place), McNally’s Irish Pub (122 South York Street) and Pizza Palace (117 North Addison Avenue).
“Each of our honorees is to be congratulated for making a financial investment that not only best serves their business needs and interests, but also provides an aesthetic enhancement to their areas of the city in particular and the community at large,” said Chamber President John Quigley, who will serve as the program’s Master of Ceremonies.
The program will be taped by “Elmhurst Our Kind of Town” for broadcast on Channel 6 of AT&T Broadband in May.
New iron way-finding signs will earn the city recognition for signage.
Recognition of building renovations will be given to Fitz’s, KinderCare and Roberto’s for commercial property and J.C. Anderson for industrial property. Fitz’s transformed the former Fire Bell Pub into a neighborhood Irish tavern with outdoor courtyard, KinderCare redeveloped a strip mall into a modern childcare facility with backyard playground and Roberto’s expanded operations from carryout pizza to a full-service Italian restaurant and lounge with outdoor courtyard. J.C. Anderson’s renovated building provides an industrial cornerstone along Church Road.
Jewel-Osco and John Sakash will be recognized in the new building category. While more functional on the operations side, Jewel-Osco’s new building includes non-essential design features that blend with the adjacent neighborhood. The new John Sakash building is an industrial showcase north of Lake Street.
The well-tended grounds around LaSalle Bank and the inviting outdoor courtyard at McNally’s will receive recognition for exterior landscaping.
Maddock Douglas will be recognized for interior design after moving its offices into the ink-stained space that previously housed the Elmhurst Press’s printing presses.
Participation in the city’s Faзade Grant Program also will earn Pizza Palace recognition for its new faзade, which extends from Al’s Hobby Shop to The Club.
