Gone, But Not Forgotten
Mary Lizzadro, 90, the supportive wife of the founder of the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Arts (220 Cottage Hill), died August 14 in a Michigan hospital. She married Joseph Lizzadro in 1932 and they moved to Elmhurst in 1940. The museum features her husband’s collection of sculpted stones.

Jewel-Osco’s newly constructed 50,000-square-foot store at 153 Schiller Street reopened for business on August 7. Housed inside the state-of-the-art facility are a TCF Bank and Starbuck’s Coffee and Ice Cream Shop. Other features include the Chef’s Kitchen Deli, Fresh Bake Shop, Floral Department, Pharmacy and One-Hour Photo Service

For the fifth consecutive year, Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue) surpassed its fund-raising record by raising more than $5.5 million from a near-record 5,730 gifts during 2000-01. That total included a record gift of $2.7 million to the A.C. Buehler Library from the estate of 1940 alumnus Gladys Robinson and her husband. The College’s endowment is valued at $75 million.
