ELMHURST CHAMBER HONORS REALTOR
AS AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR
ELMHURST, Ill., November 28, 2001 — Local businessman Thomas O. Myers Jr. was recognized as Ambassador of the Year for 2001 at the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Annual Meeting/Silent Auction held at Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187 last Monday (November 26).
The award is presented annually to a member of the Chamber Ambassadors for his/her outstanding service.
Myers, Owner of Thomas O. Myers Real Estate (385 North York Street),
has served on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and is a Past Chairman (then President).
He also was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The green-coated Ambassadors represent the Chamber at numerous member business functions, including ribbon cuttings, grand openings, anniversaries and other celebrations and special events. The group is comprised mostly of current and former members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors
The award was presented by the outgoing Chairman of the Chamber’s Board, Rich Reichert, Executive Vice President and Controller at Community Bank of Elmhurst (330 West Butterfield Road); Chamber President John Quigley; and Ambassador Chairperson Erv Helmuth, Owner of ENH Enterprises, Colorcom Graphics, Ltd., and dotcomcleaners, Ltd. (542 Pratt Avenue, Schaumburg).
Myers’ father opened his own real estate office in 1920 and Tom Jr. joined the family business following World War II service in the U.S. Navy as an x-ray technician. Like his father, Myers is a member and Past President (both 1956 and 1974) of the former DuPage Board of Realtors, which named him Realtor of the Year in 1978.
Myers is a long-time member of Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187 and served as the 11th District Commander in 1969. In 1978, the American Legion honored him as its Citizen of the Year.
Active in the community, Myers is a member of the Board of Governors at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and co-chairs the Hospital’s annual Fall Benefit Dinner. He also has assisted the Elmhurst Family YMCA.
Myers is a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Addison and served on the Board of Directors of both the DuPage Lung Association and DuPage Family Services (including Past President of the latter).
Myers and his wife Shirley reside in Elmhurst. They married in 1970.
Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and commercial progress of the community.
The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
