ACCE HONORS ELMHURST CHAMBER FOR NEW MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS

ELMHURST, Ill., September 9, 2004 – The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry has received a Certificate of Achievement from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) and National Alliance for Membership Development (NAMD) for membership recruitment during 2003.

The Certificate recognizes the Elmhurst Chamber for its Top 10 ranking in New Member Dollars in the membership dues category for chamber’s under $200,000.

In 2003, the Elmhurst Chamber signed up 144 members (131 new/13 reactivated) to generate $28,599 in new member dollars—accounting for more than 20 percent of the total membership dues of $140,403.

“During the tighter economic times of recent years, businesses large and small have re-learned the value in joining a vibrant and active chamber,” said John Quigley, President of the Elmhurst Chamber, the third largest chamber in DuPage County.

Last year, the Chamber’s annual membership dues increased by nearly $10,000, while total membership grew by 7.25 percent (579 to 621).

“Credit also must go to the members of our Board of Directors and Membership Committee, Member Advocate Ann Palumbo, our partners in economic development and member businesses for their time and effort in promoting the benefits of our Chamber to both new and established businesses,” stated Quigley.

From 2000-03, the Chamber increased total membership by 24 percent (from 437) and increased annual membership dues by 23 percent (from $114,646).

In 2002, the Chamber recruited 157 members (132 new/25 reactivated) to generate $30,505.00 in new member dollars—accounting for nearly 24 percent of the total membership dues of $130,816.25.

“Had we reported our 2002 membership numbers to the ACCE and NAMD,
I have no doubt we would’ve been recognized as a Top 10 chamber,” Quigley stated.

During the first eight months of 2004, the Chamber has signed up 92 businesses, generating nearly $20,000 in new member dollars.
