The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County (founded 1915) manages more than 24,000 acres and 59 forest preserves for the purpose of conservation, education and recreation.

Some 3.1 million people annually visit the 600 acres of shimmering lakes, 60 miles of rivers and streams, and 100 miles of scenic trails for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.  Many area are accessible to special-needs visitors.

District operations include three golf course–Oak Meadows (formerly Elmhurst Country Club) in Addison, Maple Meadows in Wood Dale and Green Meadows in Westmont–and two banquet facilities.

The District’s six educational facilities are:  Willowbrook Wildlife Center (Glen Ellyn), Fullersburg Woods Environmental Education Center and Mayslake Peabody Estate (both Oak Brook), Kline Creek Farm (Winfield), Danada Equestrian Center (Wheaton) and Tri-County State Park (Bartlett).
