The Elmhurst City Centre was a sea of electric blue t-shirts as more than 160 participants competed in The Churchville Charge: An Amazing Race for an Amazing School on Saturday, August 24. Forty-two teams of four vied to be the first to solve clues or complete challenges at 15 downtown locations and landmarks.

Challenges ranged from identifying frozen yogurt flavors at Yogen Früz, solving math problems at Mathnasium, burning off calories after eating a mini candy bar at the YMCA and consuming five extra-spicy hot wings at Buffalo Wild Wings. Competitors easily logged more than three miles as they raced between locations.

“Competition was fierce, but it was so much fun to spend a Saturday afternoon running around like a kid,” said Barb Uditsky, whose daughter is in seventh grade at Churchville.  Henry’s Hustlers crossed the finish line at Fitz’s Spare Keys in 1:40:00 to win the event. The team included Churchville teacher Maria Regan, Bryan teacher Jessica Walker and their spouses.

“A huge thank you to the Elmhurst community for opening their doors and supporting Churchville Middle School,” said Julie Deely, event chairperson. “It was truly an amazing race with Churchville parents, staff and teachers, school board and community members and an alderman competing to support our amazing school.”

All funds raised go to the Churchville PTA to support educational, cultural and social programs for Churchville Middle School students.  Other event locations included: Elmhurst Historical Museum, Enzee, FITT-RX, J.C. Licht, Pilates of Elmhurst, The School of Rock and Tannins.

Mark your calendars now for the next Churchville Charge on Saturday, August 23, 2014.
