Community Directory
The Chamber began work this month on the 2002 Elmhurst Community Directory, which will be printed by Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers (709 Enterprise Drive, Oak Brook) for distribution in late April.  Members receive two FREE listings (alphabetically and by category/subcategory), and advertising discounts up to 50 percent.  For more information, contact the Chamber office or call Liberty’s Gloria Cassata at 368-8854.

Main Street News
The City of Elmhurst (209 North York Street) and Elmhurst City Centre (2 City Centre) will host the 9th Annual Illinois Main Street Spring Conference and Awards Dinner from May 1-3.  The hub of the conference will be at Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Avenue), and Fifth Third Bank (105 South York Street) will host an expanded Chamber Business After Hours and “Cool Cars Under the Stars” event on May 1 to welcome some 400 Main Street staff members and volunteers.

Membership Breakfast
Val-Matic Valve & Manufacturing Co., 905 Riverside Drive, will host the Chamber’s Membership Breakfast on Thursday, February 14, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Newsmakers
The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra (P.O. Box 345) has received the Illinois Council of Orchestras’ 2002 Award for Community Volunteer Orchestra of the Year.  Now in it 42nd season, the 80-plus member ESO was honored based on its achievements in the areas of Community Involvement, Programming, Special Events, Young Artists, Chamber Music, Volunteer Activities and Public Relations.

Federal Record Storage Company (779 Church Road) has renovated and expanded into some 11,000 square feet of space at Federal Whalen Moving & Storage (920 Larch Avenue), its sister company’s building.  The new space will provide housing for an additional 45,000 cubic feet of records, increasing overall storage space to approximately 175,000 cubic feet.

Special Events
“On & Off the Record, Journaling in the Garden,” is the monthly meeting program for the Elmhurst Garden Club (P.O. Box 383) monthly meeting at St. Peter’s UCC in Elmhurst on Monday, February 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Elmhurst Public Library (211 Prospect Avenue) is conducting its first Adult Winter Reading Program through February 28.  Those who read four books (or use books-on-cassette or CDs) will receive a special mug.   A book log is available at the Adult Reference Desk.

State of the City
The “State of the City” Address delivered by Elmhurst Mayor Thomas D Marcucci at the Chamber’s January Membership Breakfast cosponsored by Community Bank of Elmhurst (330 West Butterfield Road) and the Elmhurst Economic Development Corporation (209 North York Street) will air on Channel 6 of AT&T Broadband (596 Lamont Road) at 4:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 8:00 p.m. Saturdays throughout February.
