ELMHURST CHAMBER SEEKS BOARD CANDIDATES

ELMHURST, Ill., August 31, 2004 — The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is accepting Board of Director nominations for seven of the 21 three-year terms to be filled in the October election.  The 30-day nomination period runs September 1-30.

“The Chamber derives considerable strength and leadership from our Board of Directors, which represents a board and diverse spectrum of business and industry,” said Chamber President John Quigley.   “The quality of this leadership is a major asset to the business community and the Chamber membership.”

Any member of the Chamber in good standing can nominate himself/herself or another Chamber member in good standing by submitting said nomination in writing to the Nominating Committee at the Chamber office, 113 Adell Place, Elmhurst, IL 60126, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, signed by the nominator and two seconding nominators who are also Chamber members in good standing.  Nomination forms are available at the Chamber office.

Duties and responsibilities of Directors include:

*  Regularly attending Board meetings, Membership Breakfasts and Business After Hours;

*  Actively serving on at least one of the Board’s four standing Committees (Marketing, Membership, Ways and Means, and Governmental Affairs);

*  Co-chairing a Fund-raising Event, Fund-raising Program and Educational Program committee;

*  Participating, sponsoring, donating and/or volunteering at Fund-raising Events and Programs;

*  Promoting the Chamber and membership recruitment and retention; and

*  Making a financial commitment in support of the Chamber.

At least four new Directors will join the Board, since Chairman Rich Rosenberg of Phototek Corp., Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Elmhurst Camera, Second Vice Chair Paul DeMichele of DeMichele Builders, 2002 Chairman Adam Hudelson of National Bank of Commerce and Karol Nelson Collins of Tribe LLC are ineligible having served two elected terms.  Rosenberg will remain on the Board in 2005 as Past Chairman.

Directors Dick Chase of Chase Root Beer, Jim Friel of Fitz’s Pub and Joe Skibbie of Community Bank of Elmhurst are eligible to return to the Board.  Chase and Friel were first elected in 2001, and Skibbie was appointed in 2003 to fill a Board vacancy.

Past Board Chairmain Cathy Bajkowski of The MONY Group is chairing the five-member Nominating Committee.  Also serving are Board member Jason Janes of Edward Jones Investments, Board member Luisa Scala of Wide Scope Staffing Services, Ambassador Ed Strangeway of Protection & Finance, and Ambassador Diane McGinnis of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare.

The Nominating Committee will meet at the Chamber office on Monday, October 4, at 8:00 a.m. to certify the nomination forms.  Then, the committee will submit a slate of candidates for approval at the Board of Directors meeting at the Chamber office on Tuesday, October 12, at 7:30 a.m.

Chamber members will receive sealed ballots on watermarked paper plus candidate bios in the mail within five business days of Board approval, and those ballots must be returned to the Chamber within eight business days of the ballot date.

Board Chairman Rich Rosenberg, with Board approval, will then appoint a three-member Teller Committee to count the ballots and report election results at the Board meeting in November.

Established in 1918, the Elmhurst Chamber is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together to promote the civic and commercial progress of the community.

The Chamber also serves the needs of its members through services, programs and events that provide opportunities for networking and referral, business education, development and promotion, governmental representation and community involvement.
