The Governmental Affairs Committee of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is sharing information from the City of Elmhurst on outdoor business expansion options and freezing liquor license fees at the Elmhurst City Council Public Affairs and Safety (PA&S) Committee meeting at Elmhurst City Hall tonight at 7 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend in person if wearing a face mask and maintaining proper social distancing or participate via a teleconference call-in line.  The dial-in number is 866-390-5250 and the access code is 8435209.

The PA&S Committee will discuss a May 22 memorandum from Business Development Coordinator Eri Jason and City Planner Eileen Franz outlining recommendations for the use of public property (sidewalks, on-street parking spaces, etc.) to expand sidewalk cafes for food and beverage operators, allow physical fitness providers to conduct outdoor classes and allow barbershops, salons, spas or other businesses to designate sidewalk space as outdoor waiting areas, and the use of private property related to beer gardens and outdoor cafe seating.

Also, the PA&S Committee will discuss a May 22 memorandum from Jason outlining recommendations to freeze liquor license fee, adjust the payment schedule, extend carry-out and to-go sales and issue license renewal credit.

With businesses scheduled to re-open on May 29–prior to the City Council’s next meeting–Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley has been authorized by the City Council to enact staff recommendations as approved by the PA&S Committee by Mayoral Executive Order.
