A Tale of Two Cities is a suspenseful adventure, filled with heroes and villains, romance and redemption. The characters are thrown into a headlong rush towards their fate in this tale of love set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. Christopher M. Walsh’s Jeff nominated adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities first premiered at Chicago’s award winning Lifeline Theatre in 2014. The Reader called the play “a taut, suspenseful adaptation that captures the romantic idealism, dark humor, and social outrage that drive this ripping good yarn.” Walsh has also adapted other works including The Count of Monte Cristo, The City & The City by China Miéville, and a musical adaptation of Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman. Walsh is a member of the artistic ensemble at Lifeline Theatre and a company member and Literary Manager of WildClaw Theatre.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness…” The story begins in Paris, where Doctor Alexandre Manette, played by Peter Piane, is “recalled to life” after spending eighteen years imprisoned in the Bastille. His daughter Lucie Manette, played by Jennifer Schreiner, and her governess Miss Pross, played by Sally Roberts, bring Manette to London. The Manettes’ lives are changed forever by their encounter with two men, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton, played by Stephen Bryant and Justin Vidovic. The Revolution disrupts their lives and draws them into the track of the storm brewing in France. The Revolutionaries are led by Ernest Defarge and his wife, played by Bill Boggs and Barbara Anderson. Also in the cast are Jim Bruner, playing the Marquis St. Evermonde, and Toria Hollyn, playing an innocent seamstress, swept up in the revolution. The audience’s guide through London and Paris, is the Resurrection Man, played by Patrick Deering.
