Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 was formed in 1974 to provide a unified school program for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Within its boundaries of 11.6 square miles, the school district serves a community of more than 45,000 residents and over 7,600 students enrolled at 13 schools – eight elementary (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), one high school (9-12) and one early childhood center (ages 3-5).
A $93 million rebuilding and renovation of York was completed in December 2003. Traditional design beautifully melded with the most advanced educational resources make the new school one of the most attractive and best-equipped high schools in Illinois.
In 2007, $21.1 million in construction projects at all of the middle schools and seven of the elementary schools were completed ahead of schedule and under budget. A two-year $17.7 million project at Hawthorne Elementary School is on schedule for completion in August of 2008 and within budget.
District 205 students consistently perform above state averages on all standardized tests. Our students have distinguished themselves at the state and national level for excellence in academics as well as interscholastic athletes.
District 205 provides a comprehensive curriculum, including all basic academics; diverse vocational training; a full complement of performing and demonstrating arts; and a broad range of extracurricular activities and clubs at all grade levels. It also operates one of the largest enrichment and/or remediation high school summer programs in the western suburbs. A before and after-school care program for children in grades 1-5 is offered by the Elmhurst Park District at all elementary buildings.

Elmhurst College is a premier, comprehensive four-year college. For 135 years, the college has sought to prepare its students superbly - for their first jobs and for lifetimes of personal and professional fulfillment. On a classic campus, in a charming suburb, Elmhurst offers students of many ages and backgrounds purposeful learning for the whole of life.
Elmhurst’s primary mission is to enable its students to achieve their full potential. The college accomplishes this mission by providing a range of high-quality academic offerings – 58 programs of study in 22 departments and nine graduate degree programs – to 3,100 undergraduates and graduate students.
The college’s primary strength is the recognized excellence of its programs and faculty. For example, in “America’s Best Colleges” (the annual survey by U.S. News and World Report), Elmhurst College is again ranked among the Top-10 Midwest Comprehensive Colleges, and has also been ranked among their Top-10 as a “best value” for the education dollar. A key reason for this growing reputation is a talented, dedicated faculty: more than 92 percent of them hold the highest degree in their academic field.
Elmhurst is an intimate environment for learning. The average class had 19 students, the largest class, about 35 students. A faculty member, and not a teaching assistant, teaches every class.
Elmhurst has put superior learning within reach of adults for more than 50 years. Today, 31 percent of the students are over 25. Bachelor’s degrees in 22 majors can be completed entirely in the evening. Several special programs enable adults to take accelerated majors and earn college credit for learning outside the classroom.
Personal, powerful, practical - Elmhurst is what college outght to be.
