Like most Chambers of Commerce, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry is itself a small business (serving more than 540 member clients) that deserves inclusion within the third piece of federal Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief legislation currently under consideration by the United States Senate.

As proposed, the legislation appropriates some $2 trillion in economic assistance for businesses and individuals, including not-for-profit organizations with an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) charitible status, or 501(c)(3), but not chambers or business associations, or 501(c)(6).

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has already included chambers of commerce as eligible applicants for its Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EDIL) program offering up to $2 million per applicant in low-interest loans for small businesses and NFPs damaged by COVID-19.
