The Theatre Historical Society of America, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2009, is a 1,100 member national non-profit organization that records and preserves the rich architectural, cultural and social history of America's theatres.
The restored second floor at York Theatre building in downtown Elmhurst serves as the home of the Society’s national headquarters, The American Theatre Architectural Archives and The American Movie Palace Museum.
The American Movie Palace Museum includes artifacts, renderings, photos, ads and other exhibits relating to the great motion picture palaces built in the U.S. The Avalon Video Theatre is a large-scale model of Chicago’s 1927 Avalon Theatre. A large screen TV on-stage allows for viewing of archive videos about theatres across the country.
